Is the blocked drain mine or the water company's?
As a rule, a pipe that serves only your property is yours, and a drain shared with neighbours or running beyond your boundary is usually the water company's. If several houses on the street are backing up at once, ring the water company first.
Can I try clearing it myself first?
For a slow sink or shower, pulling the hair or fat out of the trap and running hot water often helps. Do not mix chemical drain cleaners, and stop flushing if the toilet is filling towards the rim.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
Repeat blockages usually mean something is catching the waste: fat build-up, a sagging pipe, a poor fall or roots in an outside run. Aimen tells you what he finds and whether a further fix is worth it.
What should I tell you when I ring?
